Fashion History Illustrations Rococo Fantasy Self Portrait in Renaissance Through the Looking Glass of Time The First Industrial Revolution Medieval Song Reflections on the History of Fashion I have always had an affinity for fashion and design. Both my mother and Aunt have inspired me in my pursuit of understanding fashion through contemporary and historical lenses. Having experience with both contemporary and modern ideologies in fashion, I now find power in both experimentation and the use of historical evidence. In my AP Drawing works, I have depicted and explored the history of art and fashion through the ages in western culture beginning with a single piece relating to my Chinese heritage that acted as a starting point for me. I conducted thorough research into my favorite eras of western art history and the clothing that coincides with each. I wanted to be sure that I did not replicate these time periods precisely, but that I represented my interpretation and appreciation of each. Using a variety of materials, I created a series of sequential works that weave my idea of what each era represents while incorporating my personal concepts of beauty. These sometimes-chaotic compositions are a direct representation of how I feel and relate to these time periods. They are bursting with movement, rhythm, and balance. Though identity and self-expression are ever-changing, through my exploration of the history of fashion in the west, I feel that I have been able to identify my own aesthetic through time.
